Sundays at
St. Bede's

What’s in a typical Sunday during the summer at St. Bede’s?

Our schedule for the summer has changed from what you may have seen during the program year.

Here’s what to expect from a typical Sunday at our parish:

SoulWork is our name for adult education at St. Bede’s, which is a chance for us to learn and discuss about our faith, the Scriptures, theology, religious history, and current events. This discussion is typically led by our Rector and members of our parish, and during the summer generally follows the Revised Common Lectionary readings for the day.

During the summer, we have one service at 9:30 a.m.

On the first Sunday of the month we hold a Rite I service without music, similar to our 8:00 a.m. service during the program year. This is a contemplative Holy Eucharist service with the Victorian English typical of the first Book of Common Prayer (using language like “thee” and “thou”), observed without music or choir.

On subsequent Sundays of the month we use the Rite II service with music, similar to our 10:15 a.m. service of the program year. This service uses the contemporary language and theology from the Rite II service of the Book of Common Prayer. The service includes hymns sung by our congregation and the frequent anthem offered by members of St. Bede’s.

Nursery care is available during this service.

Following the 10:15 a.m. service we gather for fellowship and coffee or other refreshments in our parish hall across the Courtyard from the church building.
