Introducing Our New Rector: the Reverend Daniel Spors

Dear People of St Bede’s,

We are pleased to announce that the Reverend Daniel Spors has accepted the Vestry’s call to serve as the next Rector of St. Bede’s.

Dan Spors comes to St. Bede’s from the Diocese of Virginia, where he has served as the Assistant to the Rector of Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church in Arlington, Virginia since 2016. He is originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and has been an Episcopalian since 2010. He was raised in the Roman Catholic faith as a child and attended non-denominational churches as a young adult. He completed the Anglican Studies program at Sewanee, and served as a hospital chaplain for several years prior to his ordination as an Episcopal priest.

Dan will join us officially on February 1. In the meantime, he will be wrapping up commitments at his current parish and planning his move to Northern California. He is excited for the opportunity to be our next Rector and to share in our common worship, discipleship and efforts to serve our community on the Peninsula. He and his wife Ashley enjoy being outdoors and going camping, hiking and hopefully doing more rock climbing soon!

Our Interim Rector, the Reverend Martha Korienek, has been called to serve as the vicar of Saint John the Evangelist in San Francisco. Saint John’s is known for its food pantry and partnership in the Gubbio Project, which offers space for sleeping and meals to unhoused persons in the Mission District. Martha hopes to empower the parishioners of Saint John’s for their varied ministries just as she’s hoped to have done that at St. Bede’s.

Martha’s last Sunday with us will be January 24, where we’ll express our thanks for her presence and celebrate her new calling. She will be taking some vacation time the week of January 25 before beginning her new position at St. John’s on February 1.

We’re especially grateful to the members of the search committee who spent nearly eight months on the search process – preparing the parish profile and related documents, interviewing and assessing candidates – as well as the current members of the Vestry who interviewed the final candidates in marathon Zoom sessions. The care with which everyone fulfilled their roles speaks to the love we all have for the St. Bede’s.

We look forward to Dan’s arrival at St. Bede’s and to all the good that the future holds for our faith community.

In faith and peace,

Anne Vitullo, Senior Warden
Deborah Blackmore, Junior Warden
