Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
break forth into joyous song and sing praises.
Great music is an integral part of the liturgy during the 10:15 service at St. Bede’s. Under the leadership of music director Katherine McKee, the 20-voice choir leads congregational singing of hymns, psalms and service music, and sings anthems at the offertory and during communion. Our repertoire ranges from medieval plain chant to Renaissance motets to works by the great Baroque, Classical, Romantic & 20th Century masters to music newly commissioned for our choir.
We are blessed to have our worship enhanced by the presence of an exceptional pipe organ, and by the skills of our wonderful organist, Rani Fischer. We also have a grand piano in the sanctuary, as well as hand bells and a harpsichord. These additional instruments allow us to include music of greatly diverse styles in our corporate worship. The choir also sings a cappella quite frequently.
In addition to singing for regular Sunday worship, the choir offers services of Evensong, Advent Lessons & Carols, and sings for special services at Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week and various feast days. We sing Compline at Stanford University’s Memorial Church once or twice a year as part of our outreach into the greater community.
We rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 – 9:00 and on Sunday mornings from 9:15 – 10:00. New members are always welcome. Prior choral experience is helpful but not required. For more information on joining the choir, please contact the music director at firstname.lastname@example.org.
